Recently I came to hear a story of Islamic Branding in Japan, which targets the hundreds of millions of consumers in Islamic countries. There might be surely the place where it is unfamiliar to Japanese company until now.
I think the person who has taken a trip to the Middle Eastern Islam area to have had drunk Mecca-cola,Zam Zam cola. This is a masterpiece of Islam Branding, too. Because one is the name of the sacred place for Muslim, and the other is the name of the special spring of the oasis of the desert, there are important place for a Muslim.
Because it is a product sold with a can or a bottle which is printed the brand name by the Arabic word. Before long it will be discarded after being consumed. Then it may be thrown away on the roadside or may be fell down in a ditch.
In the pious Muslim it comes out to the person who does not feel pleasant because "the name of the sacred place"or "the name of a holy spring" is left on the roadside or in a ditch. Some Muslim feel so bad in such a scenery.There is a difficulty to make a consuming type product on which is printed Arabic character in Islamic countries.
During a my staying in Morocco once, there was such an episode.
In the everyday life in my stay in Morocco, I used Renault 5 of the French car. It ran very well, but one day while I drove the southern part of Morocco,it rained suddenly and the road which dried up in usual times became the submergence and it was before long with a muddy stream.
In fact, it may be dangerous to rain in the desert.It spreads in the manner of sudden flash flood. I heard the tragic news that a Swedish ambassador has died of that kind of a flash flood.
My Renault 5 is flooded to the floor because of a flash flood. And then I put some peaces of newspapers on the wet floor of my car but this was not good.
The newspaper which I put on the floor was a Moroccan newspaper written in all Arabic. Arabic is a holly language for pious Muslims. Somebody has said to me at that time "I say, the Moroccan in your doesn't feel so nice.... I do not think it is a good idea that you put a newspaper written in Arabic language on the floor '
I was so surprised by that words.There is one point to keep in mind of Islamic Branding,I felt.
